The Washington Nationals and the Chicago Cubs get off to an early start on Friday as they face off in game one of their series in Washington.
The Washington Nationals continue to go toe to toe with the Atlanta Braves in the NL East and they sit just a half of a game back in the division standings. USA TODAY Sports
The Chicago Cubs are once again among the bottom teams in MLB this season as they continue to call it a building effort. The Cubs are 18-26 on the road, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they have won their last three. As a team the Cubs are hitting .234 with Starlin Castro hitting .288, Anthony Rizzo hitting .281, and Luis Valbuena hitting .267. The Chicago pitching staff has an ERA of 3.55 with the starters at 3.72 and the bullpen at 3.23. For game one against the Nationals the Cubs start Jason Hammel who earned the win against the Nationals in his last start on June 27th. For the season Hammel has allowed 83 hits and 34 earned runs while striking out 97 over 102.2 innings for a 7-5 record and a 2.98 ERA.
Washington is 5-0 in their last five home games, 7-3 in game one of a series, and 4-1 in Roark’s last five starts. Chicago is 4-0 in their last four road games, 5-2 in their last seven games, and 5-0 in Hammel’s last five starts against a team with a winning record. Chicago is 3-8 in their last 11 games in Washington.
I like the Nationals here but to be honest I am not liking the price.
