The Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off on Saturday at Coors Field for game two of their series.
The Colorado Rockies are generally one of the stronger home teams in baseball but they didn’t look like it on Friday as they were crushed by the Dodgers. Nolan Arenado and DJ LeMahieu each had hits as the Rockies managed just two hits and failed to score a run. Starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens allowed 12 hits and eight runs while striking out three lasting just 4.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-1 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Rockies start Jorge De La Rosa who has won his last two starts. For the season De La Rosa has allowed 81 hits and 49 earned runs while striking out 67 over 90.2 innings for an 8-6 record and a 4.86 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Los Angeles Dodgers are back in first place in the NL West as the pounded the Rockies on Friday. Yasiel Puig and Scott Van Slyke each hit home runs and Dee Gordon, Andre Ethier, and A.J. Ellis each had three hits as the Dodgers scored nine runs on 19 hits. Starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw allowed two hits and struck out eight over 8.0 scoreless innings to get the win and go to 10-2 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Dodgers start Dan Haren who has won his last three decisions. For the season Haren has allowed 106 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 69 over 103.1 innings for an 8-4 record and a 3.57 ERA.
Colorado is 15-37 in their last 52 games, 1-7 in their last eight home games, and 9-3 in De La Rosa’s last 12 starts. Los Angeles is 7-0 against a left-handed starter, 13-5 in their last 18 games, and 4-1 in Haren’s last five starts. Los Angeles is 6-2 in their last eight games in Colorado.
The Dodgers have been hot and the Rockies cold but this looks like a logical spot for the Rockies to pick up a win and I expect them to get it done here.
