The Chicago Cubs shoot for consecutive road victories when they take the field with the Washington Nationals.
The Cubs are once again playing good baseball with generally good pitching leading the way. Chicago received great pitching once again in Friday's 7-2 win at Washington with the offense also chipping in. Jason Hamel took care of business on the mound with both runs allowed on five hits over seven innings to improve to 8-5. The bats didn't waste that effort with a 14 hit assault that saw Justin Ruggiano go deep and drive in two with two runs scored while Starlin Castro knocked in a pair. The Cubs send Jeff Sanardzija to the bump in game two versus Washington. Samardzija is only 2-7 on the year despite a 2.83 ERA while the team is 3-14 in his 17 outings.

Washington is back on another hot streak where both the work on the mound and at the plate have been equally strong. The Nationals had won five in a row before absorbing Friday's defeat to the visiting Cubs where nothing went in their favor. Tanner Roark didn't have his best stuff with four runs plated on nine hits through five innings with Ross Detwiler and Aaron Barrett allowing a combined three runs in the 9th to put the game out of reach. The Nats offense mustered just seven hits and a pair of bases on balls with Jason Werth cracking a solo homer and Wilson Ramos posting an RBI single. Left hander Gio Gonzalez takes the ball for the 4th time since coming off the disabled list. Gonzalez has been outstanding in his last two with a pair of 3-0 victories where he has allowed five hits in 13 frames.
The Cubs can be difficult to predict at times especially when they put together a few wins but the numbers point to Washington that is playing well also...
