The Cleveland Indians welcome the New York Yankees to Progressive Field for Monday's series opener.
The Yankees are hoping they have recovered from a recent slide that has seen them drop five in a row and caused them to fight their way out of third in the American League East. The Bronx Bombers have since won three of four after after throttling Minnesota 9-7. Hiroki Kuroda picked up the win but didn't pitch well with four runs scored over 5.2 frames while three relievers allowed a single run apiece as the Yankees nearly blew a 9-0 lead. Jacoby Ellsbury went deep and knocked in four while Derek Jeter drove in two more. Left hander Vidal Nuno hopes to turn his season around when he takes the mound at Progressive Field. Nuno has gone 2-5 in 2014 with a hefty 5.42 ERA.

Cleveland is also trying to get and stay hot with an emphasis on staying hot as they need to break through the .500 mark before making a run at the top spot in the American League Central. Things have been good over the past week with the Tribe winning four of five after knocking off visiting Kansas City 4-1 on Sunday. Starter Corey Kluber never gave the Royals offense a chance with a solo homer allowed over 8.1 innings while striking out ten. The offense didn't waste the effort with Carlos Santana going deep while Yan Gomes also left the yard and drove in two. A struggling Justin Masterson squares off with the Yankees in game number one of their weekend set Monday. Masterson has is only 4-5 on the year with a high ERA of 5.16.
If rookie Shane Greene throws I guess I'll back Cleveland but honestly Masterson is probably no better and I won't touch him...
