The Houston Astros go on the road to square off with the Texas Rangers in the battle avoid the basement in the AL West.
The Astros have really looked good at times and much improved over previous campaigns but their record says they still have a long way to go. A 6-1 defeat on the road to the Angels extended their recent slide to seven contests where neither the arms or bats have impressed. Nothing went the Astros way beginning with Coillin McHugh on the mound who was charged with three runs in four frames with the relief corp allowing three more. The offense mustered only seven hits with Carlos Corporan singling in the lone run. Jarred Cosart toes the rubber in Monday's opener with the Rangers who he faces for the second time in 2014. In the first meeting Cosart gave up three runs in seven frames of a 6-5 decision.

Texas is ib the same boat as Houston in that the bad times have been more frequent then the good which is not a good thing with so much parity in the American League West. The bad times continued in an 8-4 road loss to the Mets on Sunday. Nick Tepesch was charged with five first inning runs before settling down to allow one more over six innings of pitched with a pair of long balls doing him in. The Rangers tried to make a game of it with their ten hit attack that saw Leonys Martin homer and drive in two while Robinson Chirinos and Alex Rios crack solo homeruns. Miles Mikolas makes just his second career start looking for a rebound from a 6-4 defeat at Baltimore. Mikolas gave up three runs on three hits including a homer over 5.1 innings pitched.
Neither team should have you running to the betting window and sjoild have you looking elsewhere. I don't have a clue about what Mikolas will do so I'll back the known quantity...
