The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Miami Marlins face off on Tuesday for game two of their series in Arizona,
The Arizona Diamondbacks took advantage of their opportunities on Monday and used them to blow out the Marlins. Martin Prado hit a home run and Ender Inciarte, David Peralta, Paul Goldschmidt, and Gerrardo Parra each had two hits as the D-backs scored nine runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Chase Anderson allowed seven hits and a run while striking out eight over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 6-4 for the season. For Tuesday’s game Arizona start Vidal Nuno who was recently acquired in the Brandon McCarthy trade. Nuno had a slow start to the season but of late he was getting strnger and more confident.
USA TODAY Sports
The Miami Marlins made a few mistakes on Monday and they paid for all of them as they lost a one sided game. Garrett Jones had three hits and Christian Yellich, Casey McGehee, and Marcell Ozuna each had two hits as the Marlins scored one run on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Tom Koehler allowed eight hits and seven runs while striking out two over 3.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-7 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Marlins start Brad Hand who had a no decision in his last start. For the season hand has allowed 34 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 25 over 29 innings for a 0-1 record and a 6.21 ERA.
Arizona is 7-15 against a left handed starter, 3-5 in their last eight games, and 1-6 in game two of a series. Miami is 3-8 against the NL West, 13-29 against a left-handed starter, and 0-5 in Hand’s last five road starts. Miami is 2-7 in the last nine meetings of these two.
The Marlins had chances on Monday but didn’t convert but I look for them to bounce back here and get the win.
