The Cincinnati Reds square off with the Chicago Cubs in the night cap of their DH on Tuesday night.
Scoring has not been a strength for the Cubs in 2014 and it hasn't been for a number of years and I see no signs that this will change going forward. Chicago has generally leaned on the work on the mound to carry the load but judging from their record that hasn't worked out favorably often enough. That leads us to the tredes of Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel which leaves a huge void in the rotation and their strength has just become a weakness. The one thing Chicago can do now is to give players a look for the future. The Cubbies have called up Tsuyoshi Wada to the mound in the second game of the DH with the Reds. Wada might get a shot to stay in the rotation if he throws well given the trades Chicago has made.

Cincinnati appeared to have recovered from a very slow start to 2014 but they haven't been setting the world on fire the past week which essentially negated a recent hot streak. The good news for the team is some key injuries are no longer which is great with a full half of the season still in front of them. The bottom line is Cincinnati has the arms and bats to make themselves heard in the National League Central but in order to do so both have to perform well and losing streaks have to be kept to a minimum. David Holmberg makes his second career start when he takes on the Cubs in game two of their DH. Holmberg faced San Diego in 2013 and gave three runs on six hits over 3.2 innings in a 10-9 win.
The unknowns on the mound by either team makes it extremely risky to bet and not bettable for me. My guess is the over but who knows...
