The Seattle Mariners and the Minnesota Twins face off on Tuesday in game two of their series.
The Seattle mariners didn’t get a ton of offense on Monday but they got enough to get the win over the Twins. Michael Saunders and Mike Zunino each hit home runs and Robinson Cano had a hit as the Mariners scored two runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma allowed four hits and struck out 10 over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 7-4 for the season and Fernando Rodney earned his 26th save. For Monday’s game the Mariners start Chris Young who won his last three decisions. For the season Young has allowed 73 hits and 34 earned runs while striking out 55 over 98.1 innings for an 8-4 record and a 3.11 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Minnesota Twins kept Monday’s game in Seattle close but they were never able to get the lead as they fell to the Mariners. Oswaldo Arcia had two hits and Kendrys Morales and Brian Dozier each had hits as the Twins failed to score on four hits. Starting pitcher Kevin Correia allowed five hits and two runs and struck out one over 7.0 innings tot take the loss and fall to 4-11 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Twins start Phil Hughes who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season Hughes has allowed 118 hits and 48 earned runs while striking out 94 over 109.1 innings for an 8-5 record and a 3.95 ERA.
Seattle is 9-2 in their last 11 home games, 10-3 against the AL Central, and 6-1 I Young’s last seven home starts. Minnesota is 2-5 in game two of a series, 1-5 in their last six games as an underdog, and 10-4 in Hughes’ last 14 starts. Minnesota is 2-9 in their last 11 games in Seattle.
The total is set at seven and even with the solid pitching I like the over. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
