The San Francisco Giants host NL West rival the Arizona Diamondbacks at AT&T Park on Friday.
As the halfway point of the season approaches I think we can honestly say the Diamondbacks are done from a competitive standpoint and either need to stick with the current roster or make some changes to see if they can improve in the future. Arizona looks to build on a 4-3, ten inning victory over visiting Miami on Wednesday. Josh Collmenter gave up a single run over seven frames before Brad Ziegler getting the win despite allowing a pair of 10th inning runs when Paul Goldschmidt cracked a two run walkoff double in the bottom of the 10th to lead a three run rally. The Diamondbacks hand the ball to Michael Bolsinger in Friday's opener at San Francisco. Bolsinger has been either good or bad and it was bad in a 10-4 loss at Atlanta where he gave up seven runs in 3.2 frames.

San Francisco's hot start and once solid lead in the National League West has all but faded away to where the team is basically going to begin the second half of 2014 in a virtual tie with the Dodgers atop the division. The Giants lost a chance to make up ground in the division with a 6-1 loss to visiting Oakland on Thursday afternoon. Tim Hudson couldn't hold the Athletics attack in check with all six runs plated on nine hits through 5.1 innings of work. The San Francisco offense mustered just six hits with Pablo Sandoval plating Ehire Adrianza with a single. San Francisco turns to former Cy Young ward winner Tim Lincecum for Friday's start versus the Diamondbacks. Lincecum has won three in a row with a 0.39 ERA including a no hitter against San Diego.
The Diamondbacks backs are struggling but the kicker here is they have owned Lincecum so I wouldn't lay the chalk with him...
