Home Run Derby 2014: Odds, Pick, Predictions, Dark Horses - 7/14/14
Home Run Derby: Monday, July 14, 2014 at 8:00 pm (Target Field)
The Line: Giancarlo Stanton +350 See the Latest Odds
The 2014 MLB All-Star festivities will begin Monday with the home run derby. And as usual, it’s a chance for us to make more money.
This year’s derby includes some of the biggest names in baseball such as Yasiel Puig, Troy Tulowitzki and Jose Bautista. But if you’re looking to pick the winner and to put some serious cash in your pocket, your pick better be Miami Marlin slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

At most books, you can get Stanton at odds of +350, which is an absolute steal. Stanton has the most homers of any participant in this year’s derby with 21 and has the most power of any hitter in the entire league. He can go yard whenever he wants and now that he’s participating in a game that involves lollipops being thrown to him; goodnight.
Marlins manager Mike Redmond admitted that Stanton has been waiting to participate in this event for quite some time. And if you’ve ever had the privilege to watch him in batting practice, you’d know why. Stanton’s power is simply insane, which is why he leads the league with an average of 423.8 feet per homerun. He doesn’t just hit bombs, he puts them on the moon.
The way Michael Jordan and LeBron James were made to play basketball, Stanton was create to crush the soul out of a baseball and win home run derbies. Past home run derby winners were guys we pretty much knew were going to win and hitters who have insane power. Ryan Howard, Prince Fielder, David Ortiz and Robinson Cano.
Bautista also has a shot to win this year considering he’s homered 11 times in 66 plate appearances at Target Field. However, I’m not sure a 33-year-old Bautista has enough juice in the tank to outlast the 24-year-old Stanton if it came down to those two players in the final.
Give me Stanton all the way in the home run derby, and I don’t expect it to be even close.
