The Los Angeles Angels host the Seattle Mariners to open the second half of the 2014 season.
Seattle has made some changes entering 2014 to their lineup and rotation and it appears to have had a positive effect. Their record says as much as the Mariners have a winning mark this late in the year which is really unheard of for lack of a better word. Having said this, the Mariners are still a team that relies more on their pitching as runs can still be difficult to comeby. I think this team has a decent shot at a Wild Card but need more consistent offense in the second half to accomplish this goal. The Mariners send Hisashi Iwakuma to the hill to open the second half of the season versus the Angels. Iwakuma has won his last three while posting a 0.74 WHIP and 1.25 ERA.

At the halfway point of the season the Angels trail Oakland by a game or so in the American League West which might be te best division in baseball right now. At the very least it's the most exciting with the Angels being able to avoid the slow starts of previous seasons. Interestingly veteran pitchers CJ Wilson and to a lesser extent Jered Weaver have not been as dominant so the team has turned to an above average offense that can score quickly and in bunches which it has done with regularity thus far. Los Angeles is riding a 9-1 streak in to the second half where they have failed to score at least five runs one time. The Angels turn to Jered Weaver on the hill versus Seattle on Friday night. Weaver is 10-6 with a 3.45 ERA covering 20 outings.
I think it's always tough going against Weaver at home with that Angels offense behind him but Iwakuma has been outstanding versus Los Angeles so I'll back him as a dog...
