The Seattle Mariners look to slow down the red hot Los Angeles Angels in game two of their series. NOTE-written with Friday's game tied 2-2 in 13th
Seattle has played better at this point in the season better then I have seen in recent memory but they are on the outside looking in at at the American League West with the Angels and A's threatening to make the division a two team race. Seattle matched the division rival Angels pitch for pitch in the series opener Friday which is another game the Mariners proved they might be a possible playoff team albeit the Wild Card. Hisashi Iwakuma allowed two runs over seven frames to also show he is a great compliment to Felix Hernandez should the team get to the postseason. Felix Hernandez hopes to continue putting up Cy Young type numbers when he faces the rival Angels Saturday. Hernandez has forged an 11-2 record with a 2.12 ERA over 20 starts.

Los Angeles is finally playing up to their potential and the result has them on the brink of taking over the the AL West from Oakland. The Angels have hit and pitched their way to wins in ten of eleven after knocking off the Mariners in the series opener. Even though the series with Seattle is important to both squads it's obviously more significant for the Angels who are right there with Oakland at the top of the division. Jered Weaver might not be the power pitching workhorse he has been in the past but two runs given up in six frames and an ERA of 3.43 isn't shabby. The bottom line is Los Angeles might be the only threat to the A's in the AL with their ability to hit and pitch. The surging Angels turn to Garrett Richards on the hill who faces the Mariners for the second time in 2014. Richards has also put up Cy Young worthy numbers with an 11-2 mark with a 2.55 ERA in 19 outings.
Given the length of Friday's contest both pens will obviously need the respective starters to go deep in to the game. I had originally planned to back the under but that might be risky if tired relievers are called on so be cautious...
