The Minnesota Twins and the Tampa Bay Rays face off on Sunday at Target Field as they close out their series.
The Minnesota Twins just looked over matched on Saturday as they lost to the Rays. Kurt Suzuki, Kendrys Morales, and Trevor Plouffe each had hits as the Twins scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Phil Hughes allowed 11 hits and five runs while striking out one over 7.0 innings to take the loss to fall to 10-6 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Twins start Kevin Correia who is coming off of a win in his last start. For the season Correia has allowed 129 hits and 56 earned runs while striking out 0 over 109.1 innings for a 5-11 record and a 4.61 ERA.

The Tampa Bay Rays continued their strong play on Saturday beating the Twins in Minnesota. Sean Rodriguez had two hits including a home run and Brandon Guyer, James Loney, Logan Forsythe, and Yunel Escobar all had two hits each as the Rays scored five runs on 13 starts. Starting pitcher David Price allowed four hits and struck out nine over 8.0 scoreless innings to get the win and go to 10-7 for the season and Jake McGee earned his eighth save. For Sunday’s game the Rays start Chris Archer who has won two of his last three decisions. For the season Archer has allowed 104 hits and 43 earned runs while striking out 101 over 113.1 innings for a 5-5 record and a 3.41 ERA.
Minnesota is 1-6 in their last seven home games, 5-3 as an underdog, and 3-12 Correia’s last 15 home starts. Tampa Bay is 5-0 in their last five road games, 6-1 in game three of a series, and 1-4 in Archer’s last five starts as a favorite. Tampa Bay is 8-1 in their last nine games in Tampa Bay.
As bad as the Rays were a month ago, they are playing that well now and I like for them to continue on with winning in this spot.
