The Cincinnati Reds haven’t had a good trip to New York losing to the Yankees again on Saturday. Todd Frazier had two hits and Billy Hamilton and Devin Mesoraco each had hits as the Reds scored one run on seven hits. Starting pitcher Alfredo Simon allowed five hits and four runs, two of them earned, while striking out four over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 12-4 for the season. For Sunday’s series finale the Reds stat Johnny Cueto who has won five of his last six decisions. For the season Cueto has allowed 93 hits and 34 earned runs while striking out 141 over 143.2 innings for a 10-6 record and a 2.13 ERA.
New York is 6-1 in their last seven interleague games, 1-4 in game three of a series, and 2-5 in Kuroda’s last seven home starts. Cincinnati is 20-7 in game three of a series, 11-6 as an underdog, and 6-1 in Cueto’s last seven starts.
The Reds are clearly missing Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips but with Cueto going they shouldn’t need much here to salvage a win.
