The Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays tangle in the series rubber match at the Rogers Centre.
The Rangers are looking for any bit of momentum they can get to open the second half of 2014 with a string of wins. That means getting some consistent scoring and pitching as often as possible. That didn't happen in a 4-1 defeat to the Jays on Saturday as the ooffense a pen let them down. Colby Lewis gave up a pair of runs over five frames to fall to 6-7 while Ryan Feierabend gave up two morein 1.2 innings to put the game out of reach for an offense that received just an RBI single from Elvis Andrus. The Rangers turn to Nick Tepesch on the hill in the final game of the series at the Rogers Centre. Tepesch has either been on or off and in ten outings he has gone 3-5 with a 4.31 ERA.

The Blue Jays have been in a major funk where neither the work on the mound or at the plate has been good. It all started soon after Toronto took over first in the American League East which has resulted in the team falling all the way to third. The Jays received some timely offense and great staring pitching from Marcus Stroman who tossed a four hit shutout through seven frames to up his record to 5-2. The offense had plenty of baserunners on a 12 hit, four walk attack that saw Dan Johnson drive in two on a double and sacrifice fly. Veteran left hander Mark Buehrle takes the ball Sunday looking to give the Blue Jays consecutive victories. Overall Buehrle has gone 10-6 with a 2.64 ERA covering 19 starts where Toronto is 13-6.
Toronto is struggling but the Rangers are struggling even more which has me looking at the Blue Jays. Hopefully Buehrle comes up big because Toronto's offense isn't dependable...
