The San Diego Padres make the trip to Wrigley Field to face the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.
San Diego is clinging to third in the National League West although they are not in contention at 12 games below .500. Not enough scoring is the major issue although they have won back to back games after a 2-1 decision versus the visiting Mets on Sunday. The story of this game was Odrisamer Despaigne tossing no hit ball for 7.2 frames before allowing a double and single for a run and no decision. The Padres offense did just enough despite eleven hits that saw Yasmani Grandal homer and Seth Smith single in PR Cameron Maybin in the bottom of the 9th to win it. Lefty Eric Stults opens the series on the mound at Wrigley Field to face the Cubs for the second time in 2014. Overall Stults is 3-11 with a ERA just south of five in 19 outings.

I assume the Cubs are probably done trading away members of the rotation but I don't know what they will or won't do with the lineup. Suffice to say we have seen Chicago trade away their talent before to no avail as the losses have continued to mount over the years. The team dropped number five in a row following a 3-2 defeat at Arizona where Jake Arrieta fatered late. Arrieta had a shutout going until giving up two in the 6th and one in the 7th before leaving after 6.2 frames. The offense totaled six hits and one base on balls with Anthony Rizzo cracking his 23rd long ball while Arismendy Alcantra doubled in Chris Coughlin in the 9th. The Cubs hand the ball to rookie right hander Kyle Hendricks who makes his second start. Hendricks received a no decision in his debut with four runs plated over six innings of a 6-4 victory over the Reds.
Oh boy...not a game I'm rushing out to bet and I don't need to say why. I'm going with Chicago but I don't have a real good reason to be perfectly honest...
