The Los Angeles Dodgers look to leave PNC Park and the Pittsburgh Pirates with a victory Wednesday.

The titanic second half run we saw from the Dodgers has not materialized yet but they remain right on the tail of the NL West leading Giants. Los Angeles has been around .500 the past two weeks where the scoring has been down even in the wins. The scoring was just fine but the pitching was not in a 12-7 loss at PNC Park Tuesday. Josh Beckett allowed four runs and three homers over 3.2 frames with the next three relievers allowing eight more. The bats did their part with Adrian Gonzalez going deep and driving in three while Scott Van Slyke went solo with AJ Ellis singling in a pair. A struggling Dan Haren faces off with Pittsburgh for the second time on the season. Haren has struggled over his last three starts where he has gone 0-3 with a 9.64 ERA.

What the Pirates need to kick off the second half of 2014 is to go on a long hot streak to make themselves the primary challenger to Milwaukee and St Louis in the National League Central. Tuesday resulted in a step that way with starter Vance Worley giving up four runs gave up four runs through six innings with three straight relievers allowing a run each. The Buccos pounded out 12 hits and walked five times with Gregory Polanco, Ike Davis and Neil Walker going deep and driving in eight runs with Russell Martin knocking in two more. Left hander Francisco Liriano takes the hill versus the visiting Dodgers for the second time in 2014. Liriano looks to duplicate his last outing in a 4-2 win over Colorado where he gave up an unearned run in five frames.

Liriano is tough to back because he has just awful overall but I think he might have a slight edge here. I'm actually backing him but I'm not sure about betting him...
