The Los Angeles Angels host the Detroit Tigers in game number two of their series on Friday night.
Detroit has owned the American League Central for the past several year's and are the frontrunner for another title in 2014. They lead the division but are looking to put the challengers in their rear view mirror right now. Detroit took a step in the right direction in a 6-4 win at Los Angeles Thursday behind Max Scherzer and late scoring. Scherzer was charged with three runs over seven innings to get the win while the offense totaled eleven hits and three BB. Ian Kinsler and Nick Castellanos each drove in a pair of runs with all but one player hitting safely. The Tigers turn to Drew Smyly in game two of their series with the dangerous Angels. Smyly bounced back from three poor outings to defeat Cleveland 5-1 with a run scored in seven frames.

The Angels are the only legitimate threat to Oakland in the American League West and one of the top challengers for one of the Wild Cards. The LAA have stalled a bit lately after Thursday's defeat was ther 4th in six outings as Garrett Richards allowed four runs through seven innings with two relievers giving up a run each. The bats posted eight hits and a free pass with Kole Calhoun leading the way with two hits and a pair of RBI's. Los Angeles goes with Tyler Skaggs on the bump versus the heavy hitting Tigers on Friday. Skaggs has not been competitive the past two times out with eleven runs plated over 11.2 innings pitched.
