The Arizona Diamondbacks and Philadelphia Phillies begin a three-game series on Friday at Citizens Bank.
While the Diamondbacks are 4-2 since the All Star break, they’re still 14 games below a .500 record. The Diamondbacks pitching staff has allowed four or more runs in six of their last nine games and has the 26th worst ERA in baseball at 4.25. The Diamondbacks have lost 18 of their last 21 games when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, the Diamondbacks have also had their struggles at times, but they’ve scored 10 runs in their last two games and Aaron Hill has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games. Wade Miley gets the ball, and he’s 6-6 with a 4.16 ERA and has 125 strikeouts in 134 innings. Miley is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in two career starts against the Phillies.

The Phillies snapped a four-game losing streak with a win on Thursday but are also 14 games below a .500 record. While the Phillies pitching and offense has struggled all season long, it’s their pitching staff that has allowed four or more runs in 12 of their last 20 games. The Phillies have the 21st worst ERA at 3.99 and have lost six straight when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Marlon Byrd has a six-game hitting streak and Domonic Brown has hit safely in seven of his last nine games. Starting is Kyle Kendrick, who is 4-10 with a 4.87 ERA and has 77 strikeouts in 125.2 innings. Kendrick is 0-2 with a 5.45 ERA in eight career games against the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks are 2-5 in Mileys last 7 starts during game 1 of a series and 5-1 in Mileys last 6 starts overall. The Phillies are 2-5 in Kendricks last 7 home starts and 4-1 in Kendricks last 5 starts vs. National League West. The Diamondbacks are 3-13 in the last 16 meetings in Philadelphia.
While both teams have been lousy, the Phillies did just play the Giants well and that may carry over to this series. Add in the fact the Phillies are at home, and I'll take the home team and the plus money.
