The Boston Red Sox head to the Sunshine State to kick off a series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday.
Boston seemed to be finally finding the groove in winning seven of eight leading many to believe a run in the AL East was beginning. However the team has dropped three straight where neither the bats and arms were able to get on the same page. The Red Sox were knocked around at Toronto 8-0 Thursday with Ruby De La Rosa allowing seven runs on nine hits through four innings pitched. That made for a long day with the Red Sox offense mustering just a single hit off the bat of Shane Victorino. The Red Sox turn to ace Jon Lester on the bump to contain a surging Tampa Bay club. Lester has gone 10-7 with a 2.50 ERA with the team going 13-7 in his outings.

Tampa Bay couldn't get a single thing going early in the season mainly because there was no consistent scoring to lean on. That was then and this is now as the Rays have won seven in a row that was capped off bt a 3-0 victory at St Louis on Wednesday. The offense had their worse output in two weeks but it didn't matter with Alex Cobb tossing a five hit shutout over seven frame with ten strikeouts to improve to 6-6. TB totaled eigght hits and five bases on balls with Brandon Guyer, Evan Longoria and Alex Cobb driving in runs. Left hander David Price is scheduled to open the series with visiting Boston on Friday. Price has appeared to have recovered from some early struggles and has gotten his record to 10-7 with a 3.06 ERA.
This has the potential for a great match up on the mound and while I think Lester has the edge I'll back Price and the Rays offense although the chalks seems high...
