The battle for first in the NL West rages on with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants squaring off at AT&T Park.
Many people are expecting the Dodgers to go on another titanic run like we saw in 2013 but that has yet to happen. Los Angeles has been playing around .500 baseball the last two weeks where the offense has struggled to score. Everything was golden for the LAD in a series opening 8-1 victory at San Francisco. Zack Greinke tossed seven scoreless innings to get the win while the offense racked up 15 hits with Yasiel Puig, Adrian Gonzalez and Matt Kemp knocking in two runs each. Ace lefty Clayton Kershaw hopes to remain the hottest pitcher in the game when he takes the versus San Francisco Saturday. Kershaw is putting up Cy Young numbers with an 11-2 record and 1.92 ERA.

San Francisco is hoping a long slide that enabled Los Angeles to get back in the National League West is over and the results the past two weeks says that's a possibility with wins in seven of ten with the Dodgers in town Friday. The good times came to an end with both the work on the mound and at the plate falling short of the mark. Tim Lincecum had been throwing well but didn't have anything going for him Friday with six runs plated on nine hits through four frames. The offense never got going with seven hits that saw Tyler Colvin single twice with the lone RBI coming in the 9th. The Giants send Ryan Vogelsong to the mound to face the Dodgers on Saturday night. Vogelsong is coming in off his poorest effort of 2014 when he gave up four runs on eleven hits over three frames of a 7-4 loss at Philadelphia.
Los Angeles has had problems in San Francisco but it's tough to go against Kershaw who has been lights out. Sooner or later Kershaw will lose and it could be here which makes the high chalk a bit hard to take...
