The Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates finish their weekend series at Coors Field.
With the top of the National League Center filled with playoff hopefuls, the Pirates can ill afford a losing streak of any length. It hasn't been a good start for the Buccos at Coors Field with back to back defeats after an 8-1 loss on Saturday. Starter Jeff Locke was hit hard with ten hits and six runs allowed over 6.2 innings pitched to take the loss. The Pirates to get the offense going with Ike Davis launching a solo homer in the 9th. Edinson Volquez looks to rebound from a rare poor start when he gets the ball at Colorado on Sunday. Volquez is coming off a 5-2 defeat to the Dodgers where he allowed five runs on ten hits over 5.2 frames.

The Rockies haven't had many positives to lean on for quite awhile with neither their arms or bats coming through. Colorado had dropped eight in a row before winning back to back games including the series opener against visiting Pittsburgh. The Rockies have now won three straight following Saturday's victory with Tyler Matzek tossing a three hit shutout through seven innings of work. Colorado unleashed a 14 hit attack with Nolan Arenado, Drew Stubbs and Corey Dickerson going deep and combining for five RBI's while Josh Rutledge knocked in three. The Rockies send Franklin Morales to the hill to face the playoff hopeful Pirates on Sunday. Morales makes his 4th start since rejoining the rotation and is 1-1 with 2.70 ERA in his last three outings.
Volquez has loads of talent and is definitely the better hurler but the Rockies have been playing well and might be worth a small shot as home dogs...
