East meets West when the Atlanta Braves make the cross country trip to face the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Braves are looking for some solid play away from home as they try to overtake Washington atop the National League East. Atlanta has struggled at times to get the pitching and hitting going at the same time and did so once again Monday but the work on the mound was up to the task in a 2-0 win over the Padres. Ervin Santana tossed eight scoreless innings and struck out eleven to up his record to 10-6. The offense struggled to score with Evan Gattis slugging his 17th homer while singling in another to cap off a three hit afternoon. The Braves are scheduled to begin their west coast swing with Aaron Harang on the bump. Harang has been outstanding in 2014 with a 9-6 record with a 3.31 ERA.

The Dodgers are probably riding high as they wake up this morning sitting on top of the National League West. It feels even better having swept your biggest rival on the road to get there. The LAD completed a three game sweep of San Francisco following a 4-3 win on Sunday. Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed all three runs on six hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched to improve to 12-5. The offense posted six hits and three base on balls Juan Uribe, Carl Crawford and Hanley Ramirez driving in runs. Josh Beckett toes the rubber in game number one versus visiting Atlanta on Tuesday. Beckett is looking to rebound from a 12-7 defeat at Pittsburgh where he was charged with four runs in three innings.
Harang is enjoying a career type season while Beckett has great numbers but has been either off or on lately. You never know about the unpredictable Braves but at this price I might give them a look...
