The Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox face off on Thursday afternoon in Detroit as they close out their series.
The Detroit Tigers jumped all over the White Sox early on Wednesday and they made I hold up as they cruised to the win. Nick Castellanos hit a home run, Torii Hunter had three hits, and Miguel Cabrera and J.D. Martinez each had two hits as the Tigers scored seven runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer allowed five hits and a run while striking out six over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 13-3 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Tigers start Drew Smyly who is coming off of a loss in his last start. For the season Smyly has allowed 100 hits and 42 earned runs while striking out 87 over 100.1 innings for a 6-9 record and a 3.77 ERA.

The Chicago White Sox are still alive in the AL Wildcard race but they lost some ground on Wednesday getting pounded by the Tigers. Adam Dunn hit a home run and Adam Eaton and Alejandro De Aza each had two hits as the White Sox socred two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Hector Noesi allowed 10 hits and six runs while striking out three over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 5-8 for the season. For Thursday’s game the White Sox start John Danks who has won six of his last seven decisions. For the season Danks has allowed 136 hits and 64 earned runs while striking out 92 over 131 innings for a 9-6 record and a 4.40 ERA.
Detroit is 3-5 against a team with a losing record, 1-4 in their last five games, and 6-13 in Smyly’s last 19 starts. Chicago is 4-2 in their last six road games, 1-4 in game three of a series, and 5-12 in Danks’ last 17 starts against the AL Central. Chicago is 9-27 in their last 36 games in Detroit.
Danks has come up big on several occasions and I expect him to do it here as well and pick up the win.
