The Baltimore Orioles and the Seattle Mariners face off on Saturday at Camden Yards for game two of their series.
The Baltimore Orioles started their series with the Mariners on a high note getting the win in a hard fought game. Manny Machado had three hits, Nick Markakis had two hits, and Nelson Cruz had a hit as the Orioles scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Wei-Tin Chen allowed five hits and a run while striking out eight over 7.1 innings to get the win and raise his record to 12-3 for the season and Zach Britton earned his 22nd save. For Saturday’s game the Orioles start Miguel Gonzalez who has four no decisions and a win in his last five starts. The Seattle mariners battled to keep the game close on Friday but they couldn’t get the lead as the fell in Baltimore. Robinson Cano had two hits and Kendrys Morales and Dustin Ackley each had hits as the Mariners scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Roenis Elias allowed seven hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out seven over 5.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 8-9 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Mariners start James Paxton who returns from the 60 day DL. In his prior two starts this year Paxton allowed six hits and three runs while striking out 13 over 12 innings for a 2-0 record and a 2.25 ERA.
Baltimore is 10-3 in their last 13 home games, 6-2 in their last eight games, and 18-6 in Gonzalez’s last 24 starts. Seattle is 8-4 on the road against a right-handed starter, 1-5 against the AL East, and 5-1 in Paxton’s last six starts. Seattle is 5-14 in their last 19 games against Baltimore.
This is a tough one because of Paxton who if he is ready to go can be very tough but I have to believe if he is healthy enough to stat we will see his best stuff and I will take the Mariners here in just a lean.
