The Baltimore Orioles take a short drive down the interstate to face the Washington Nationals.
Baltimore is showing no signs of going away in the American League East with the past few weeks marked by clutch hitting and great pitching. The work on the mound copntinued to stand out in a 1-0 decision over Seattle Sunday that gave the Birds victories in seven of ten. Starter Chris Tillman saved the day with a four hit shutout over seven innings while Andrew Miller and Zach Britton tossed scoreles frames. The offense never got going but didn't need much with a Nick Markakis solo homer in the first being enough to secure the win. The Orioles hand the ball to Kevin Gausman for Monday's interleague battle with Washington. Gausman is coming off of back to back quality starts where he has allowed four runs in 13.2 innings.

Washington hasn't done anything special over the last few weeks and that's cost them a few opportunities to extend their lead in the National League East over Atlanta. The Nats could make their life easier if they reeled off a few wins and might be on their way after a 4-0 win over visiting Philadelphia was their second straight. Stephen Strasburg gave his team a lift on the mound with a three hitter over seven scoreless innings while logging ten strikeouts to up his record to 8-9. The offense totaled six hits and walked three times with three players driving in runs and four scoring with Denard Span singling twice. The Nationals are scheduled to send Tanner Roark to the hill to face Baltimore for the first time in his career. Roark has been an important part of the Nats rotation with an 11-6 record and 2.74 ERA.
It's tough to predict what Gausman is going to do although he certainly has been competitive. I think Roark is an unsung hero of the rotation and I give him the slight edge here...
