The Kansas City Royals pay a visit to Chase Field to tangle with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Kansas City is once again hot on the trail of the American League Central leading Tigers. The Royals have racked up wins in seven of ten where both the pitching and hitting have contributed. KC took two of three from the mighty Athletics after a 4-2 decision on Sunday. Starter James Shields came up huge by holding high scoring Oakland to a pair of long balls over eight innings to win his 10th. The bats pounded out 14 hits with Omar Infante going 3-5 with a pair of RBI's and a run scored. Left hander Danny Duffy looks fora rare win when he takes the hill against the Diamondbacks. Duffy has accumulated some impressive numbers but his 5-10 record and 2.42 ERA says he doesn't get much support.

The Diamondbacks are not going to challenge in the National League West and they won't reach .500 but they can knock off some playoff hopefuls and make their postseason hopes more difficult. That was how the script played out Sunday in a 3-2, ten inning decision over the visiting Pirates. Trevor Cahill held the Buccos to a single run on seven hits through seven innings in a no decision performance. Ender Inciarte and Jordan Pacheco drove in runs with Andy Marte driving in Tuffy Gosewisch with the winner. Gosewisch went 2-3 with a walk and two runs scored while Nick Ahmed walked twice and scored. The Diamondbacks turn to Wade Miley on the bump versus playoff hopeful Kansas City. Miley has gone 4-1 with a no decision over his last six with a grand total of four runs given up in the victories.
Duffy might be the best pitcher you never heard of but he just doesn't get any help. Kansas City is really playing well but to be honest I'm gun shy about backing them with Duffy so I'll probably lay off this...
