David Price makes his first start for Detroit as the Tigers and Yankees meet for game two of their four game series.

The Detroit Tigers followed up their weekend sweep of the Rockies with a 2-1 loss in game one in New York as an Ian Kinsler RBI single in the 5th inning would be the only run the visitors plated on six hits on Monday night.  Max Scherzer was solid pitching seven innings and allowing just two runs on nine hits but the bats couldn’t deliver as the righty suffered just his fourth loss on the season.

For Tuesday's game the Tigers will look to bounce back by cashing in on prize acquisition David Price who is extremely familiar with the Yankees after spending six and a half seasons with Tampa Bay.  Price has pitched at least seven innings in each of his last ten starts and eight innings or more in eight of the last ten starts as the lefty is as durable a starter as they come in this league.  For the season Price owns a WHIP of 1.05 and ERA of 3.11 to complement a record of 11-8 on the season.  Jacoby Ellsbury is batting .279 lifetime against Price and Jeter is .305 career against him, but many of the other current Yankees have poor lifetime stats against the lefty, including Brett Gardner, Ichiro, Carlos Beltran, Stephen Drew and Mark Texeira.

The Tigers are an impressive 31-21 away from home on the season.

The Yankees won their series in Boston over the weekend after dropping the prior series in Texas for a 3-3 road trip prior to returning home.  In last night's game in the Bronx, Brandon McCarthy continued his success in pinstripes allowing just one run on five hits over 5.2 innings to pick up the win while the bullpen combined to finish the effort holding the Tigers scoreless over the remaining 3.1 innings.  The Yankees scored just two runs on the night, both coming in the third inning on a sac fly by Jacoby Ellsbury and RBI single by Brian McCann, but made the meager output stand up to secure the victory as David Robertson picked up his 30th save.

New York will send veteran right Hiroki Kuroda to the mound on Tuesday night in hopes of potentially winning another low scoring affair.  Kuroda has been hittable at times but also relatively stable in terms of his performance as he enters this game with WHIP of 1.22 and ERA of 3.98 while going 7-7 thus far on the season.  Kuroda won’t deliver many shutouts but he also isn’t likely to blow up very often either, allowing 2-4 earned runs in nine of his last ten starts.  Kuroda hasn’t faced the Tigers this season but the current Detroit roster is .274 lifetime against the veteran over a combined 73 at bats.

The Yankees are 26-26 at home on the season.

While we’ve seen mixed results with starters changing teams mid-year, this sets up to be a smooth transition as Price is pitching against an old division rival while remaining in the American League.  Look for the Tigers to bounce back here and even the series.
