The Washington Nationals host division rival the New York Mets on Tuesday night.
The Mets drive to escape 4th in the division and reach the .500 mark has been losing traction over the past week. The offense has struggled in losing four of six capped off by a 4-3 defeat to visiting San Francisco on Monday afternoon. The good news was Dillon Gee put an end to his recent struggles with a pair of runs given up over 5.2 innings but Jeurys Familia blew the save with a run plated in the 7th and Jenrry Mejia gave up a 9th inning run to take the loss. Daniel Murphy paced the offense with a 2-5 day with a homer and two RBI's and a pair of runs scored. Zack Wheeler face division leading Washington for the third time in 2014. Wheeler has been on a hot streak that has saw him post six straight quality starts with one run given up five times.

With first place in the National League East in hand, the job of the Nationals is to expand the lead over second place Atlanta and give themselves a little breathing room. However a 7-3 loss to Baltimore Monday was a missed opportunity to do just that over the idle Braves. Tanner Roark looked like he had the advantage on the mound but instead was tagged for five runs on seven hits including a pair of homers through 6.1 frames. The Nationals held a 3-1 lead until the Orioles threw five runs up in the 7th and 8th innings to put this one away. The offense received RBI's from Jason Werth and Wilson Ramos but never got the big hit. Left hander Gio Gonzalez toes the rubber for the third time versus the rival Mets on Tuesday night. Gonzalez is looking to rebound from a 10-4 loss to Philadelphia where he allowed five runs in 3.2 innings.
My take on Washington is they are difficult to nail down so Wheeler as a huge dog might be worth a shot because he is throwing as well as anyone. Just not worth looking past the plus money in my opinion...
