The Seattle Mariners need a win against the Chicago White Sox Saturday to stay on track for a Wild Card.
The White Sox appeared to be on their way to reaching the .500 mark before both the pitching and offense went quiet over the past week or so. Chicago saw the bats go silent once again in a 4-1 loss at Seattle in the series opener. Starter Jose Quintana gave up all four runs (two earned) over 5.2 frames to take the loss. The bats posted six hits with Dayan Viciedo providing the scoring with his 16th long ball in the 4th. Hector Noesi is tabbed as the game two starter for the White Sox on Saturday. Noesi has thrown the ball well at times and poorly at other times and has been really bad or really good but inconsistent.

The Mariners are light years ahead of where they generally are at this point in the season although they won't be sniffing the American League West crown. A Wild Card is not out of the question but it's not a sure thing with stiff competition everywhere. The Mariners continued their hot play with Friday's win behind great pitching and a four run 8th. Hisashi Iwakuma came up big on the mound with the lone run scored through seven frames while Mike Zunino took care of the scoring with a three run homer to give Seattle all they needed. Left hander James Paxton makes his 4th start of 2014 and first ever versus the White Sox. In three outings Paxton has gone has gone 2-0 with a 2.76 ERA and 0.92 WHIP covering 16.1 innings pitched.
I don't know if we have enough to go on to back Paxton but the Mariners are hot. I'm looking at them and hope Noesi is not at the top of his game..
