The Chicago Cubs hope to salvage the final game of their weekend set with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Tampa Bay might be out of the American League East conversation but they are still fighting to reach .500 which would be a great accomplishment considering they once owned the worse record in the game. The Rays took another step forward with a 4-0 win over the Cubs Saturday for victory number four in a row. Jake Odorizzi was at the top of his game with three hits given up over six shutout innings while totaling nine strikeouts. Yunel Escobar rapped a pair of singles and knocked in three with Evan Longoria driving in a run and scoring twice. Alex Cobb hopes to continue his hot pitching when he takes on the Cubs at Wrigley Field Sunday. Cobb has gone 2-0 with a 1.31 ERA over his last three outings with 16 hits allowed in 20.1 frames.

The Cubs have been playing well but have stumbled over the past week or so with a 3-4 record following Saturday's defeat. The scoring has been down in this stretch and was at a low point Saturday which squandered some pretty good starting pitching. Edwin Jackson tossed a winnable game with all four runs plated (three earned) on five hits and a trio of bases on balls through six innings. That was too much for the bats who managed five hits and zero walks while striking out 15 times. Starlin Castro was the bright spot with a 2-4 evening but Luis Valbuena struggled with an 0-4 night with four K's. Left hander Travis Wood will be on the bump looking to salvage a game for the Cubs on Sunday. Wood snapped a string of five straight poor outings with three runs plated over six innings of a 6-5 win over Colorado.
The Rays are playing well and the Cubs seem to be coming off a hot streak which has me leaning to the visitors but I'd be sure they don't rest the regulars...
