The New York Yankees hope to move close to first place with a win over the Baltimore Orioles.
New York had been playing well with wins in six of seven before back to back home losses to Cleveland leave the team looking for momentum heading to Baltimore. A 4-1 loss to the Indians featured another day of struggles at the plate. Starter Hiroki Kuroda wasn't sharp either with three runs plated over 4.2 frames on five hits and four walks as he struggled from pitch number one. The bats were unable to bail him out on just five hits with Jacoby Ellsbury going 2-4 with a solo homer. Left hander Chris Capuano takes the ball in Monday's series opener at Camden Yards. Capuano is 1-2 in three starts with a 3.91 ERA with 52 hits allowed over 50.2 innings pitched.

The Orioles are threatening to pull away from the pack in the American League East with both the arms and bats contributing to the success. Baltimore has won seven of ten despite an 8-3 defeat at the hands of visiting St Louis on Sunday. Kevin Gausman allowed three runs on eight hits and a pair of free pass through five innings but the next three relievers gave up runs to take the Orioles out of this one. The O's offense produced ten hits with Nick Markakis and Nelson Cruz driving in runs with Markakis scoring twice. Bud Norris draws the start versus the visiting Yankees in game one of their series on Monday. Norris has logged a 9-7 record with a 3.68 ERA covering 19 2014 starts where the Orioles are 11-8.
If Norris throws as capable I like the Baltimore offense to do some damage against the left handed Capuano...
