The Miami Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Tuesday in Miami for game two of their series.
The Miami Marlins got out to an early lead on Monday and battled the full nine innings for the win. Giancarlo Stanton hit two home runs, Christian Yelich had three hits, and Casey McGehee and Jarrod Saltalamacchia each had two hits as the Marlins scored six runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Tom Koehler allowed eight hits and three runs while striking out five over 5.0 innings to get the win and go to 8-9 for the season and Steve Cishek earned his 30th save of the season. For Tuesday’s game the Marlins start Jarred Cosart who lost his first start since being traded to the Marlins. For the season Cosart has allowed four hits and four runs while striking out three over 5.1 innings against the Reds.

The St. Louis Cardinals had their chances down to the last out but they were unable to outscore the Marlins on Monday and took the loss. Matt Holliday had four hits, Jon Jay hit a home run, and Jhonny Peralta and A.J. Pierzynski each had two hits as the Cardinals scored five runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Shelby Miller allowed eight hits and five earned runs while striking out five over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 8-9 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Cardinals start Adam Wainwright who has won two of his last three starts. For the season Wainwright has allowed 126 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 134 over 162 innings for a 14-6 record and a 2.28 ERA.
Miami is 5-1 in their last six home games against a team with a winning record, 2-4 in their last six home games, and 9-3 in their last 12 games as an underdog of +110 to +150. St. Louis is 4-1 as a road favorite, 5-2 as a favorite, and 21-5 in Wainwright’s last 26 starts in game two of a series. St. Louis is 15-7 in their last 22 games against Miami.
