The New York Mets and the Chicago Cubs face off on Saturday at Citi Field for game two of their series.
The New York Mets started slow on Friday but they bounced back and got the win over Chicago. Eric Campbell hit a home run and Daniel Murphy and Juan Lagares each had hits as the Mets scored three runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Zack Wheeler allowed four hits and two runs while striking out 10 over 6.2 innings to get the win to go to 8-8 for the season and Jenry Mejia earned his 18th save. For Saturday’s game the Mets start Jon Niese who got the win in his last start to end a personal four game losing streak. For the season Niese has allowed 135 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 96 over 135.1 innings for a 6-8 record and a 3.46 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs miserable season continued on Friday as they lost to the Mets in New York. Starlin Castro had two hits and Javier Baez and Wellington Castillo each had hits as the Cubs scored two runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Travis Wood allowed four hits and three runs while striking out five over 5.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 7-10 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Cubs start Daniel Strally who was acquired in the trade with Oakland. Strally hasn’t made a start for the Cubs as of yet but he was expendable in Oakland as the starting rotation got deeper.
New York is 9-3 as a favorite, 1-5 in their last six home games, and 1-4 in Niese’s last five starts. Chicago is 4-2 as a road underdog, 5-12 in their last 17 road games, and 2-9 in game two of a series. Chicago is 5-2 in their last seven games against New York.
The total is set at 7.5 but I see this one staying under that number and the under is my free pick. My stronger pick is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
