The Philadelphia Phillies continue their west coast road swing with game two against the San Francisco Giants.
The Philadelphia Phillies are trying to finish out the season strong and avoid the National League East basement but things haven't been going well all year and the last two weeks have been dismal. The Phillies went in to AT&T Park Friday looking for a win after dropping five of six and came away with a 5-3, ten inning decision. Cole Hamels served up a three run homer over seven frames with the pen putting up zeros. Cody Ashe homered and drove in two while Marlon Byrd cracked a solo jack. The Philadelphia Phillies turn to Kyle Kendrick on the bump Saturday afternoon who has yet to face the San Francisco Giants in 2014. Kendrick has struggled on the year with a 5-11 record and a 4.88 ERA.

There is plenty of season left for the San Francisco Giants to regain the lead in the National League West but the wins have to start coming in and the Los Angeles Dodgers have to start losing. The Giants had lost five of six with the Philadelphia Phillies coming to town for a three game set beginning Friday. Make that six of seven following Friday's defeat even though Madison Bumgarner was outstanding with a run scored through seven innings. Jeremy Afeldt blew the save with two runs plated and Santiago Casilla lost it in the 10th. The Dodgers did post eleven hits with Michael Morse providing the offense with a three run bomb in the 4th. Veteran right hander Tim Hudson is scheduled to be on the bump versus the Philadelphia Phillies who he saw in late July. The former Atlanta Braves hurler has put up decent numbers with a 2.81 ERA but has not gotten a ton of support.
The Phillies are tough to back because their pitching and hitting hasn't been consistent but the Giants are falling apart at the seems. I hope the Phillies win as a fan but I don't think I could bet either...
