The Los Angeles Angels hope to pick up ground in the standings with a win over the Boston Red Sox.
The Los Angeles Angels are banging heads with the Oakland Athletics for supremacy in the American League West and the timing is good with wins in six of seven after Tuesday's 4-3 victory at Fenway Park. Jered Weaver lasted 5.1 innings with all three runs plated before four relievers shutdown the Red Sox bats. The Angels totaled nine hits and walked twice with four players driving in runs and four scoring. Garrett Richards takes the ball for the first time versus the Boston Red Sox Wednesday. Richards is a major reason the Angels are competing for the West title with a 13-4 record and 2.53 ERA.

The Boston Red Sox were playing well until the last week as they have gone from winning five of six to dropping four of five following Tuesday's defeat at the hands of the visiting Angels. Starter Allen Webster gave the Red Sox a chance with a strong six innings with three runs scored before Koji Uehera allowed the winning run in the top of the 9th. Boston had their share of runners on eight hits and five bases on balls with David Ortiz going deep and scoring to cap off a 2-3 night that included a pair of walks. Boston turns to Clay Buchholz for Wednesday's start against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. Buchholz has struggled through much of the season with a record of 5-7 with a 5.79 ERA over 20 outings.
The Red Sox have been disappointing in 2014 but right now they are pesky and can't be overlooked. I'm going with Richards and the Angels who have been a good combination...
