The Texas Rangers look to cool off the surging Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon.
The Kansas City Royals have been one of the hottest teams in the game and the reward has been first place in the American League Central. The arms and bats have been clicking with wins in eight of ten after Saturday's 6-3 decision at Texas. Starter Jeremy Guthrie served up a solo homer over eight innings to pick up the win with the offense doing their damage on eight hits and four walks with Alex Godon leaving the yard while Jarrod Dyson and Omar Infante combined for five RBI's. Kansas City hands the ball to lefty Jason Vargas who faces the Texas Rangers for the first time in 2014. Vargas is one reason the Royals are in first with a 10-5 record and 3.17 ERA over 23 starts.

The Texas Rangers aren't the same team of the past several years as injuries and poor play have taken a toll. The scoring and pitching haven't been strong the entire season and the team has the worse record in the game. Nick Tepesch took the loss with all six runs allowed on seven hits and a trio of base on balls through 6.1 innings pitched. The offense mustered seven hits and a pair of free passes with Shin-Soo Choo going deep while Leonys Martin drove in two more. Veteran Scott Baker makes his 5th start of the season when he squares off with the dangerous Kansas City Royals. Baker has made 17 relief appearances as well and has a 5.75 ERA in 65 innings.
Kansas City won't keep on winning and the Rangers won't keep losing but I hope both trends continue for at least another day...
