The New York Yankees look to cool down the red hot Kansas City Royals when they visit Kauffman Stadium Monday.
The New York Yankees are staying within arm's reach of the Orioles in the American League East after winning six of eight behind just enough hitting and pitching. The Yankees won their 4th straight in a 7-4, ten inning decision versus the White Sox on Sunday. Chris Capuano allowed three runs over a six inning stint with David Robertson serving up a homer in the 9th fror a blown save. Brian McCann was the offensive star with a PH walkoff three run jack while Ichiro Suzuki knocked two. Michael Pineda makes his third start since coming off the disabled list when he takes the ball versus the Kansas City Royals. Pineda looked to be in mid season form in his two appearances with three runs plated in eleven innings.

The Kansas City Royals have done nothing but win for several weeks which has them leading the American League Central over the Tigers. The arms and bats have both contributed to the success although the offense took the day off Sunday in a 3-1 loss at Texas. A struggling Scott Baker held the Kansas City attack to only five hits through five frames with Billy Butler's solo shot in the 4th being the highlight of the contest for the Royals. Starter Jason Vargas allowed all three runs (two earned) on eleven hits and four free passes over six innings. James Shields looks to notch his 7th consecutive quality start when he toes the rubber against the New York Yankees. On the season Shields is 12-6 with a 3.28 ERA covering 27 outings.
The Royals can not afford a losing streak with the Tigers waiting to take over the Central but the Yankees won't be easy if Pineda is on his game so be cautious...
