The Los Angeles Angels have spent the entire season chasing the Athletics for first in the American League West and have finally caught them. Staying in first will likely be a battle through the remainder of 2014 and it was a lost battle on Monday. The Angels tried to steal one with Wade LeBlanc on the hill but he was hit hard early with six runs plated on seven hits and a trio of base on balls. The bats totaled eight hits and walked once but were held in check with Kole Calhoun doubling in Collin Cowgill with the only run. Matt Shoemaker takes the bump for his first career start versus the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. Shoemaker is coming in off of his best start where he tossed a one hit shutout over 7.2 innings of a 2-0 win at Boston.
I don't have a great deal of conviction here with the Marlins capable of beating anybody so for now I'll back Shoemaker and dig deeper...
