The New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves face of on Thursday at Citi Field as they close out their 3-game series.
The New York Mets battled until the last out on Wednesday but they came up a run short and fell to the Braves. Wilmer Flores hit a home run and Juan Lagares and Eric Campbell each had two hits as the Mets scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Zack Wheeler allowed four hits and three runs while striking out seven over 7.0 innings to take he loss and fall to 9-9 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Mets start Jon Niese who has lost five of his last seven starts. For the season Niese has allowed 150 hits and 57 earned runs while striking out 106 over 148 innings for a 7-9 record and a 3.47 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves are competing hard for a spot in the post season and they helped their cause with a win on Wednesday. Jason Heyward hit a home run and Freddie Freeman and Evan Gattis had hits as the Braves scored three runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Julio Teheran allowed three hits and a run while striking out four over 6.1 innings to get the win to raise his record to 13-9 for the season and Craig Kimbrel earned his 39th save. For Thursday’s game the Braves start Mike Minor who is playing his best baseball of the season in his recent starts. For the season Minor has allowed 140 hits and 65 earned runs while striking out 106 over 119.1 innings for a 5-8 record and a 4.90 ERA.
New York is 3-8 in their last 11 home games, 5-13 as an underdog, and 2-5 in Niese’s last seven stats. Atlanta is 5-0 against a left-handed starter, 5-12 in their last 17 road games, and 2-6 in Minor’s last eight starts. Atlanta is 2-5 in their last seven games in New York.
The Mets had every chance on Wednesday and couldn’t pull it off but look for them to hit Minor hard here and get the win.
