The Miami Marlins travel to Turner Field to kick off a series with the Atlanta Braves.
The Miami Marlins have hung tough in the NL East despite the loss of Jose Fernandez but the mountains seems to be a little too steep. The Marlins have dropped four of five after Wednesday's 6-1 road loss to the Angels which has the Fish at two games below .500. Even Henderson Alvarez couldn't rescue Miami as he struggled along with the bats with five runs scored on eight hits including a pair of homers over 6.1 innnings. The Marlins lone run was a solo blast off the bat of Adeiny Hechavarria that produced a shortlived 1-0 lead in the 3rd. Tom Koehler gets the call to the mound in the opener versus the Atlanta Braves on Friday night. Koehler comes off a ND in a 5-4 loss to Colorado with three runs scores over seven frames.

The Atlanta Braves are right in the middle of the National League East race on paper but in reality they need a season ending hot streak and maybe a little help against the Nationals. A season long problem at the plate has been a huge issue although not on Thursday in a 6-1 victory over the Mets at Citi Field. Lefty Mike Minor was at his best with the lone run scored through seven innings pitched to up his record to 6-8. A 13 hit attack did the damage with Ryan Doumit cracking a two run bomb while Emilio Bonafacio went 4-5 with a pair of RBI's. Atlanta is scheduled to send wins leader Ervin Santana to the hill to face the Miami Marlins Friday. Santana saw a three game winning streak com to an end last time out by a 1-0 count to the Reds in a seven inning stint.
I think Santana has the advantage on the mound although I don't like backing the Braves and especially so at high chalk...
