NL East rivals the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets collide in the Big Apple on Friday.
The Philadelphia Phillies have been playing great baseball which obviously won't get them in to the postseason but it might be enough to escape the NL East basement. The Phillies completed the sweep of Washington with an 8-4 victory on Wednesday and have now won seven of ten with all coming against playoff contenders. Kyle Kendrick gave up all four runs in six frames to get the win while Jimmy Rollins, Grady Sizemore and Marlon Byrd did the damage on the scoreboard with homers. Rookie David Buchanan opens the series on the mound versus the New York Mets. Buchanan has struggled to go deep in to games at times and for the year is 6-7 with a 4.21 ERA over 14 starts.

The New York Mets had a shot at reaching .500 on a few weeks ago but I don't see that happening as their offense isn't consistent enough to get the job done which hs left the team scrambling to escape the cellar in the East. The Mets went backwards in a 6-1 loss to the Braves on Thursday as the offense was a non factor once again. Jon Niese took the loss with three runs plated through 7.1 innings with Daisuke Matsuzaka allowing three more in the 9th. Eric Campbell was the offense with an RBI single that scored Travis d'Araud. Jacob deGrom looks to continue what has been a solid rookie campaign on the mound when he matches up with the Philadelphia Phillies. DeGrom is hoping to rebound from a 7-4 loss to the Dodgers where gave up five runs in six frames.
The Phillies are hot and the Mets are struggling but if you put money on either team you are taking a big risk because neither is good...
