The Seattle Mariners hope to end their series with the Washington Nationals on a positive note.
The Washington Nationals are in firm control of the National League East and are not far from wrapping things up. The Nationals posted a 3-1 win at Seattle Saturday to pick up another game in the standings with Atlanta losing. Stephen Strasburg was at his best with a solo homer given up over 7.2 innings to get the win. The Nats offense mustered eight hits with Jason Werth clubbing a two run homer while Anthony Rendon rapped an RBI double. The Nationals turn to Tanner Roark on the hill Sunday with his first ever match up with the Seattle Mariners. Roark has been dependable with a 12-8 record and 2.81 ERA over 24 outings.

The Seattle Mariners are battling for the second Wild Card but there isn't any room for losing streaks. The Mariners dropped their third in four contests following Saturday's loss as the offense never got untracked. Roenis Elias gave up all three runs (two earned) through six innings of work to absorb the loss. The bats totaled eight hits with Dustin Ackley connecting on a solo jack while Jesus Sucre and Austin Jackson posting two hits apiece. Hisashi Iwakuma squares off with the Washington Nationals for the first time in his career. Iwakuma suffered his worse setback of the season with five runs allowed over 2.1 frames in an 8-6 decision versus Boston.
I like what I have seen from Washington so far in Seattle but sweeping the Mariners at Safeco Park is not going to be easy. I'm going with the hotter team but would not back them if there are players getting the day off...
