The New York Mets and Miami Marlins continue their National League East battle on Tuesday.
The New York Mets are trying to unseat Miami and fend off Philadelphia in the NL East standings. If either is to happen the Mets have to get better defense and piching then we saw in Tuesday's 9-6 loss at Miami. Zack Wheeler had dominated the Marlins offense but was charged with five runs (two earned) while only four earned runs were scored because of six errors. Dilson Herrera homered and drove in three with David Wright knocking in two. Left hander Jonathan Niese takes the ball for the third time against the Miami Marlins in 2014. Niese has been a strong part of the New York rotation with quality starts in nine of his last ten outings.

The Miami Marlins are trying to fend off the Mets and solidify their grip on third in the National League East. Miami had dropped four of five before the Mets handed them Tuesday's win. Henderson Alvarez struggled for the second consecutive start with four runs plated (three earned) in 2.1 frames with Brad Hand giving up two more in three frames. Giancarlo Stanton hammered his league leading 34th homer with Casey McGehee and Marcell Ozuna knocked in two runs apiece. Veteran right hander Brad Penny will make his third start of 2014 when he faces the New York Mets on Tuesday. Penny struggled last time out with four runs plated on five hits and three BB in five frames.
I don't know if I can stomach backing the Mets with Monday's loss being as bad as I've seen a pro team play defense. Take this for what it's worth and hope New York can catch and throw...
