The Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers face off on Wednesday at Wrigley Field for game three of their series.
The Chicago Cubs are building for the future and we got another glimpse that it may be bright as they knocked off the Brewers on Tuesday. Arismendy Alcantara hit a home run and Chris Coghlan and Luis Valbuena each had two hits as Cubs scored seven runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Jake Arrieta allowed five hits and a run while striking out four over 6.0 innings to get the win and got o 8-5 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Cubs start Kyle Hendricks who has two no decisions and four wins in his last six starts. For the season Hendricks has allowed 45 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out 34 over 56.2 innings for a 5-1 record and a 1.91 ERA.

The Milwaukee Brewers tailspin continued on Tuesday as they lost to the Cubs at Wrigley. Aramis Ramirez had two hits and Jonathan Lucroy and Ryan Braun each had hits as the Brewers scored one run on eight hits. Starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo allowed eight hits and seven runs while striking out four over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 8-8 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Brewers start matt Garza who makes his return from the DL after missing a month. For the season Garza has allowed 122 hits and 58 earned runs while striking out 104 over 145.2 innings for a 7-7 record and a 3.58 ERA.
Chicago is 5-0 in their last five home games, 7-2 against a team with a winning record, and 6-0 in Hendricks’ last six starts. Milwaukee is 2-5 as a favorite, 0-7 in their last seven road games, and 1-4 in Garza’s last five starts. Milwaukee is 40-20 in their last 60 meetings with Milwaukee.
Hendricks has somewhat flown under the radar but he has been money and I like him and the Cubbies here.
