The Miami Marlins and New York Mets conclude their high-scoring NL East series with a rubber match on Wednesday night.

Juan Lagares led the way going 4-4 with two RBI’s and three runs scored, David Wright had three hits, three RBI’s and scored twice, Travis d'Arnaud had three hits, and Matt den Dekker and Wilmer Flores each had two hits in the win.

Jacob deGrom makes the start for the Mets on Wednesday in what has been an impressive rookie campaign. The 26 year old righty deGrom enters this matchup with a WHIP of 1.20 and ERA of 2.94 while posting a 7-6 record. deGrom has dominated the Marlins in two starts spanning 14 innings with an ERA of 0.64 and 15 strikeouts. The road hasn’t been kind to deGrom though as his ERA shoots up to 4.07 in ten road starts this year.
The Miami Marlins fell to 38-32 at home on the year in Tuesday night’s loss. Starting pitcher Brad Penny was pulled after three innings allowing four runs on seven hits and Anthony DeSclafani promptly allowed three more runs in relief to follow to dig the home team a deficit they couldn’t dig their way out of. Giancarlo Stanton hit his 35th home run of the season on a two run shot, Christian Yelich had three hits and an RBI, Donovan Solano had two hits, and Adeiny Hechavarria hit his tenth triple of the year in the loss.
Tom Koehler toes the rubber for the home team Marlins on Wednesday in what has been a respectable season. Koehler enters this game with a WHIP of 1.25 and ERA of 3.79 while posting a 9-9 record on the year. The 28 year old righty Koehler has pitched well against the Mets despite failing to earn a win with an ERA of 3.08 across four starts and 26.1 innings. Koehler has done his best work at home this season with an ERA of 2.69 across 12 starts at Marlins Park.
A case could be made for either side which makes the pick ‘em line fitting but I will side with the home team given the splits of each starter.
