The San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks finidh off their NL West battle on Wednesday.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are looking to finish the final weeks of the season strong to take some playoff hopefuls with them in to the offseason. Although San Diego isn't playoff material they are a division rival the Diamondbacks simply want to beat which didn't happen Tuesday with the bats failing them in a 2-1 loss. Wade Miley allowed a lone run over seven frames before Brad Ziegler served up a 9th inning homer to get the defeat. Miguel Montero doubled in Cliff Pennington in the 4th as the Snakes managed just five hits. The Diamondbacks are scheduled to send Josh Collmenter out to face the San Diego Padres. Collmenter has been rock solid the past two times out with one run scored in 14.2 innings of work.

The San Diego Padres can be up and down which is dependent on whether the pitching can overcome the lack of production at the plate. The Padres had won six of eight entering Tuesday's bout with Arizona and kept their hot streak going thanks to another strong performance on the mound. Rookie Odrisamer Despaigne gave up the lone run on four hits through seven frames for a no decision. The Padres produced ten hits and a pair of walks with Alexi Amarista singling in Rene Rivera while Cory Spangenberg smacked a pinch hit walkoff jack. San Diego counters with Andrew Cashner on the mound who makes his third start since coming off the disabled list. In those two outings Cashner has allowed three runs on 13 hits over eleven frames.
San Diego is favored as expected but even though they are winning I personally think the price is a bit steep for a team that struggles to score...
