The Texas Rangers look to slow the postseason drive of the rival Seattle Mariners on Thursday.
The Seattle Mariners know that every win from here on out with the end of the season within view and the Wild Card up for grabs. The Mariners took a step forward with a 2-1 victory at Oakland Wednesday for their third win in four contests. Felix Hernandez snapped out of a mini two game skid to improve to 14-5 with a solo homer allowed over eight innings. The offense consisted of back to back bombs in the 7th by Kyle Seager and Corey Hart. Rookie Roenis Elias is scheduled to be on the hill to open their series with the Texas Rangers. Elias hasn't been getting much support in three straight defeats where he has posted a 2.40 ERA.

The Texas Rangers are in the spoiler's role but didn't quite get the job done in getting swept by Kansas City after a 4-1 defeat on Wednesday. Overall the offense has struggled in five consecutive defeats with that trend continuing in the finale' versus the Royals. Starter Nick Tepesch threw the ball well yet fell to 4-9 with four runs plated (three earned) on six hits through 6.2 innings pitched. The Rangers totaled eight hits with Ryan Rua singling in Elvis Andrus. Veteran Scott Baker makes is third consecutive start when he takes the mound versus the Seattle Mariners Thursday. Baker has won back to back starts with three runs plated in 11.1 innings.
The two keys here are whether Roenis continues to throw well and if Baker can do the same. If both do perform well then which offense would you back? The Mariners for me but remember Roenis can be hit...
