The San Diego Padres hope to resume their drive to reach .500 with a trip to Coors Field to face the Colorado Rockies.
The San Diego Padres have a real shot at reaching .500 but if they don't accomplish this goal the blame will fall on the shoulders of the offense who continue to have scoring issues. The scoring woes continued in a 5-1 loss to the Diamondbacks on Thursday with the work on the mound not helping the situation. Up and down Ian Kennedy was down with four runs given up on ten hits over 5.1 frames to drop his record to 10-12. The offense mustered four hits and a walk to put a halt in the hopes of building a winning record. The Padres give the ball to Eric Stults in game one versus the Colorado Rockies on Friday. Stults has generally thrown well the past five starts but overall he has struggled with a 6-15 record and a 4.56 ERA.

The Colorado Rockies have a reputation as a big time offense although scoring hasn't been nearly as strong in 2014. Having said that the Rockies scored 26 runs in taking two of three from San Francisco following Wednesday's 9-2 victory. Chis Bergman allowed both runs on nine hits through six innings to even his record at 2-2. The long ball was pivitol with Nolan Arenado and Michael McKenry going deep while Corey Dickerson left the yard twice. Left hander Tyler Matzek looks to continue his recent hot pitching versus the San Diego Padres. Matzek has been outstanding the past three times out with a 2-1 mark and 2.18 ERA over 20.2 innings.
Matzek has been hammered in this match up which is scary because the Padres don't hit lefties but apparently hit him. Stults might be the better choice but honestly I have no edge to go on here...
