A few weeks ago the Oakland Athletics were leading the American League West but their offense has been going south in defeats in seven of ten going in to Friday's series opener. Things continued to go down hill in the opener which really hurt with the Angels winning. Jeff Samardzija absorbed the defeat with all four runs given up on six hits including a pair of homers while striking out nine through seven innings. Kazmir has dropped back to back contests with 13 runs plated on 12 hits in a total of 4.1 innings.
